Toft Cricket Club is preparing for another proud moment as the towering, world-record breaking cricket wickets are set to move to a permanent new home at the heart of the club

Currently proudly facing Chelford Road, the extraordinary 8.5 metre high stumps have become a local landmark, turning heads, sparking conversations and even making national headlines. Hand-carved by talented local wood sculptor Andy Burgess, the colossal wickets were crafted from mighty 11-metre Douglas Fir logs and rise to an incredible 8.5 metres tall.

The sculpture smashed the previous world record held in Australia and even featured on the BBC News, putting Toft firmly on the global cricketing map! The giant wickets were originally created as part of an ambitious £1millionfundraising drive for a brand-new pavilion - a future-proofed home for generations of Toft players, families and supporters.

Now, plans have been submitted to Cheshire East Council to relocate the famous stumps to a permanent position adjacent to the club’s scoring board, overlooking the cricket field itself.

The new location will give players and visitors an unforgettable welcome, adding visual impact to the ground and serving as a lasting symbol of the remarkable community effort behind the pavilion project.

“The Wickets will stand not only as a world record-breaker, but as a celebration of what can be achieved when a small town rallies together ” Nigel Muirhead, Chairman Toft Cricket Club

Fundraising for the new pavilion is ongoing, and the club warmly welcomes support from the local community and businesses who want to be part of Toft’s exciting future. Visit www.toftcc.com/pavilion-fundraising for details.
