Toft CC - 2018 Club Review

By David Blackburn

Club Review

Following our “season closedown” it feels like a good time to do a short review of what has been a great season in so many ways on and off the field, so here goes from an overall club perspective.

  • A great season on the field with the 1st team finishing 5th, 2nd team 3rd, 3rd team champions and being promoted with O40’s 3rd in their regional group
  • The Toft Taverners played 18 games – without losing a single game to the weather - raising £’000’s to take over 200 o70’s away to Lytham St Annes in July
  • The ECB “All Stars” initiative which meant we had ~85 5-8 year old boys and girls playing cricket for the first time
  • Some fantastic socials during the year with many people experiencing the Club for the first time (not understanding you don’t need to be a member to pop in!)
  • A record year financially (albeit final accounts TBC)….made in many ways by the wonderful weather and England’s great run in the World Cup (if you were there for the quarter final against Sweden….now that was a busy Saturday afternoon!)
  • The appointment of Katherine as Pavilion & Events manager taking over from Sarah who did a v good job from the outset in transitioning us from Bernard
  • The appointment of Mark Samaru to lead on maintaining the square during the season….and what became a green oasis as the outfield turned brown during those hot summer days to prove that we can grow grass during the season
