Toft 1XI travelled to Marple for the first game of the season with new skipper Jimmy Lomas
in charge of a young side full of hope for the season. With the Marple ground bathed in sunshine Lomas lost the toss with Marple choosing to bat.
Toft seamers, Tom Forster
, James Scott and Andrew Jackson
all bowled excellent lines and lengths which restricted the Marple batting with Forster and Scott taking early wickets. Veteran Andrew Hall dug in and played carefully for 69 and Marple were a healthy 105-3 at drinks. After the break Andrew Jackson
immediately removed Hall and the spin attack of Rob Jones
and Jimmy Lomas
entered the fray and took 3 wickets apiece to bowl Marple out for 144.
Toft’s batting line up is capable of scoring runs quickly and so it proved against a wayward Marple attack. Despite losing Tom Forster
and James Drummond
early Toft marched to 147-2 off only 19.4 overs. Rob Sehmi led the way with 67no off 53 balls (10 fours and 2 sixes) supported by Rob Jones
A fine first outing of the season ensured maximum points for a team well led by the new skipper. Next week they host Bramhall who had a convincing win this week against Neston.
